In 1963, Ford attempted to buy Ferrari. Enzo pulled out at the last minute, humiliating
the American company in front of the world. Henry Ford II responded by building a car for
one purpose only – to destroy Ferrari at Le Mans. Three years later, at the 1966 24
Hours of Le Mans, Ford GT40s crossed the finish line first, second, and third. Ferrari
watched from fifth.
Gulf livery on the Mulsanne Straight at dawn. Pine trees silhouetted against an orange
sky, morning mist rising off the tarmac after twenty-four hours of racing. The headlights
still blazing. The finish line ahead. One of the greatest acts of revenge in the history
